Ted Hoskinson was an elementary school teacher for a period of time at a very fine academic institution in Washington, DC. Years earlier, he was a student at the same school for nine years and graduated from high school there.
Although Ted did not make teaching his life-long vocation, he always cared deeply about elementary education. His wife Anne and he decided that their joint legacy would be to establish and fund a charity that would focus on children in need, improving their lives through better education and by encouraging strong, cohesive families. As Ted became more involved in this idea, his initial focus became centered on public school elementary education. As a boy attending a private school Ted was privileged to receive great knowledge and caring from many teachers. He enjoyed experiences that he had once taken for granted, and now understands now just how precious they were in so many ways.
Ted’s wife Anne passed away in April of 2016. As part of the grieving process, he decided the best way he could honor her was to begin the mission they conceived together! Anne wanted to call the Charity “Roots and Wings”. By luck, that name was still available in Florida, and the Charity was officially established as a 501(c)(3) organization under that name. Roots and Wings created an initial Board of Directors and began the work of the Charity, accepting contributions from others who also believed in this cause and its mission. Roots and Wings then began the wonderfully fulfilling task of engaging others in the wonderful adventure of gifting in a meaningful way to enrich the future by strengthening the youth of tomorrow.
