The Scleroderma Foundation

Scleroderma, also known as Systemic Sclerosis, affects over 300,000 people. Ferne Robin, the executive director of the Scleroderma Foundation, Southeast Florida Chapter, and volunteer Rachel Ebert joined us on the Forum for Nonprofits to help raise awareness about this chronic connective tissue disease. The disease causes an over-production of collagen and hardening of the skin. The symptoms vary and are similar to other autoimmune diseases, often damaging internal organs as well as the skin. The Foundation organizes local support groups, holds a variety of fundraising events and hosts patient education programs at North Broward Hospital. For more information about the organization and how to donate, call 954-798-1854, email sclerodermasefl@gmail.com or visit their web site.
