This week on the Forum for Nonprofits, we had the pleasure of having Gerry Fallon, communications coordinator at the American Association of Caregiving Youth. The American Association of Caregiving Youth (AACY) is the national resource for children who sacrifice their education, health, well-being and childhood to provide care for family members who are ill, injured, elderly or disabled. AACY combines systems of healthcare, education and community to provide needs-driven services in school, out of school and at home.Their ultimate goal is for no child in the US to drop out of school because of family caregiving responsibilities. Baby Otter Scholarship and Education Fund
This week on the Forum for Nonprofit we had the pleasure of having Marlene Bloom, president and Shirley Harold, partner of Baby Otter Scholarship and Education Fund. The Baby Otter Scholarship and Education Fund is a non-profit organization focused on teaching special needs and underprivileged children. They focus on saving children and adults from drowning by teaching them their proprietary state and nationally certified “Turn Kick Reach,®” a five day private program. 9Muses Art Center
We had the pleasure of having Chris Yoculan, the adult services director at 9Muses Art Center. 9Muses is a program of the Mental Health Association of Southeast Florida designed to provide adults with mental health disorders an opportunity to partake in Fine Arts, Support Groups, and Peer Activities. Participants are able to choose from a broad array of visual and performing arts. Classes and personalized instruction along with individual studio time allow members to create according to his/her own personal “muse” and engage in stimulating activity without regard to labels. They also have Support groups for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, as well as peer specialists available for mentoring and support. This week’s guest was Mark Sauer, founder of Delray Students First. Delray Students First’s mission is to provide tutoring to students in preparation for the SAT and ACT exams. Their program includes life skills such as learning to swim, going on college tours, career planning, and educational and cultural field trips.
