On this week’s show we had the pleasure of having Camille Wallace, director of grants and legal services at the Center for Independent Living of Broward. Their mission is to offer assistance to people with disabilities in fulfilling their goals of independence and self-sufficiency. Under the Rehabilitation Act of 1978, Congress established the Center for Independent Living in response to individuals with disabilities need for core services focused on independent living skills training, peer support, information and referral, and advocacy. Since 1991, The Center for Independent Living of Broward (CILB), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, has served more than 100,000 individuals with disabilities in fulfilling their goals of independence and self-sufficiency. CILB strives to enhance the lives of people with disabilities, regardless of age, in Broward, Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee counties. CILB is a consumer driven organization focused on providing individuals with disabilities an accessible link to achieving their life’s goals. Debbie Rand Memorial Service League
This week on Forum for Nonprofits we have Amy Carmichael, director of volunteer services and retail operation and Sherry Thomas, president of Debbie Rand Memorial Service League. Part of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital, the League was created to coordinate all volunteer services, to raise funds and to initiate beneficial activities in support of the not-for-profit Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Each year hundreds of people serve as Debbie-Rand Memorial Service League volunteers, meeting the needs of patients, their families and the staff at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The volunteers act as hospital ambassadors to patients, employees and visitors; assisting patients and staff on a nursing unit; raising funds for equipment and services; serving on an event planning committee; helping with the Pet Therapy program; delivering flowers and much more. Trustbridge
On this week’s show we had the pleasure of having Sue Gallup, the director of volunteer services at Trustbridge. Since 1978, Hospice of Palm Beach County, Hospice of Broward County and Hospice by the Sea have cared for 200,000 families in South Florida. These three hospices are now one branch of Trustbridge, a community nonprofit that provides support for families facing serious illness 24 hours a day. Sweet Dream Makers
This week on the Forum for nonprofits we had Suzy Broad with Sweet Dream Makers. Hundreds of struggling families in Palm Beach and Broward Counties are referred to us each year though Social Service agencies and community organizations that work with children and families. They put an average of 50 kids per month into new beds as well as providing gently-used furniture and housewares to families who are furniture poor. The families they serve may have previously been homeless, lost everything due to bed bugs, are unemployed, the working poor, migrant workers, victims of domestic violence, the disabled and the elderly. Compass LGBT Community Center

Heart2Heart Senior Outreach
On this week’s show we had Blake Silverstrom, the executive director of Heart 2 Heart. The vision of Heart2Heart Senior Outreach is to provide residents in South Florida long term care centers with regular and consistent visitation with the opportunity. South Florida leads the nation in the number of elderly residents per capita. A vast majority of residents in long term care centers do not receive any visitors at all; not from family members, friends, or sadly, even the church. Most of the residents – who served us and our country as parents, grandparents, teachers, doctors, nurses, civic officials, business professionals, law enforcement officers and in the armed forces – are lonely and feel abandoned and rejected. Rotary Community Garden and Food Forest of Coral Springs
This week on Forum for Nonprofits, we had the pleasure of having Judi Gulko, the co-organizer of the Rotary Community Garden and Food Forest of Coral Springs. The Rotary Community Garden of Coral Springs is a joint effort of the City of Coral Springs, the Rotary Club of Coral Springs and interested citizens of our community. The garden is adjacent to the Dr. Steven G. Paul Dog Park, located at 2575 Sportsplex Drive, in Coral Springs, Florida. This is the garden’s seventh year. There are fifty-four 4′ * 8′ garden boxes, which individuals, families or groups rent out for the year. There is a mandala circle garden and other community areas where we grow herbs and vegetables for all our gardeners. There are row crops where food is grown for donation to homeless shelters. They are also currently building a food forest in the fruit grove. A food forest is a garden like a forest ecosystem, with different types, stages and layers of perennial plants which are edible or useful. Literacy Coalition of PBC
This week on the show we had Kristen Calder, the CEO of Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County. The Literacy Coalition is a not for profit organization committed to ensuring that every resident of Palm Beach County, Florida is able to read. Their philosophy is best expressed by Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations: “Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope… (it is) the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential.” The mission of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County is to improve the quality of life in our community by promoting and achieving literacy.
