Aid To Victims of Domestic Abuse

Related imageWe had the pleasure of having Jennifer Ray, Program Services Director of Aids To Victims of Domestic Abuse. Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, Inc. mission is to promote violence-free relationships and social change by offering alternative choices to end violence and domestic abuse. AVDA provides a Community of Hope through their state-certified domestic violence center that offers a comprehensive array of services for all victims of domestic violence including; a 24 hour crisis hotline, emergency and transitional housing, advocacy, counseling and support to help them live violence-free and self-sufficient lives. United Way of Broward County Commission on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention

Image result for united way of broward county commission on substance abuseWe had the pleasure of having once again Gonzalo Cadima, Director Commission on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention and Heather Davidson, Director of Public Policy and Advocacy at United Way of Broward County. United Way of Broward County Commission on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention (UWBCCBH) is a broad based substance misuse prevention and mental health promotion coalition dedicated to reducing negative consequences on individuals, families, and communities. HOPE South Florida

HOPE South Florida brings hope to the hopeless and homes to the homeless. Autism Speaks

Daniel D Cantor Senior Center

Related imageWe had the opportunity to speak with Gail Weisberg, the Executive Director of the Daniel D Cantor Senior CenterThe Daniel D. Cantor Senior Center is a hub of social, educational and recreational activities for seniors in the North West Broward area. They offer more than 60 classes each month. The Kurt and Alice Walter Adult Day Care Pavilion houses the Adult Day Care/Alzheimer’s Respite Programs. Guitars Not Guns

Image result for guitars not gunsWe had the pleasure of talking to Jimmy Rucollo, President of the Florida chapter of Guitars Not Guns. Guitars Not Guns provides guitar lessons to foster children and at-risk youth in a classroom setting with qualified teachers as an alternative to violence. In addition to learning how to master changing from one chord to another, children learn perseverance & discipline and build self-esteem. Broward Regional Health Planning Council

brhpc-broward-regional-health-planning-council-navlogo1We had the pleasure of having Regine Kanzki, Division Director, Ruth Thomas, ACA Navigator, Jean -Robert Menard, Assistant and Program Manager at Broward Regional Health Planning Council. BRHPC’s direct service programs serve uninsured and underinsured low-income Broward County residents. These services include Early Learning/School Readiness, HIV/AIDS Planning, Quality Assurance, Eligibility, Housing Assistance, Consumer Advocacy, Mental Health, Chronic Disease Self-Management, Health Promotion, Disease Prevention, Substance Abuse, Maternal/Child Health and Forensic Re-integration. Rotary Community Garden and Food Forest of Coral Springs

Rotary_New-300x88This week on Forum for Nonprofits, we had the pleasure of having Judi Gulko, the co-organizer of the Rotary Community Garden and Food Forest of Coral Springs. The Rotary Community Garden of Coral Springs is a joint effort of the City of Coral Springs, the Rotary Club of Coral Springs and interested citizens of our community. The garden is adjacent to the Dr. Steven G. Paul Dog Park, located at 2575 Sportsplex Drive, in Coral Springs, Florida. This is the garden’s seventh year. There are fifty-four 4′ * 8′ garden boxes, which individuals, families or groups rent out for the year. There is a mandala circle garden and other community areas where we grow herbs and vegetables for all our gardeners. There are row crops where food is grown for donation to homeless shelters. They are also currently building a food forest in the fruit grove. A food forest is a garden like a forest ecosystem, with different types, stages and layers of perennial plants which are edible or useful. They can be reached by phone at 954-200-1788, or on the Rotary Community Garden and Food Forest of Coral Springs website here. Literacy Coalition of PBC

Literacy-Coalition-of-Palm-Beach-Co.This week on the show we had Kristen Calder, the CEO of Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County. The Literacy Coalition is a not for profit organization committed to ensuring that every resident of Palm Beach County, Florida is able to read. Their philosophy is best expressed by Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations: “Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope… (it is) the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential.” The mission of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County is to improve the quality of life in our community by promoting and achieving literacy. Their goal is to ensure that every child and every adult in Palm Beach County can read. They can be reached by phone at 561-279-9103, or on the Literacy Coalition of PBC  website here. Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

leukemia-and-lymphoma-society_1439257737704_84902_ver1.0This week on Forum for Nonprofits, we had Orli Zimmerman and Melissa Mulvihill from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.
